The competition organisers have separately evaluated an 9×1,5 m artwork – fence-mosaic, created out of plastic lids. The author Jevgenija Rute received a present from European Parliament member Zigmantas Balčytis – a trip to Brussels. Other three children involved in the creation process received Motorola T-shirts and a basketball ball presented by the Lithuanian Basketball Federation.
“We have been collecting the lids for two years already. We “sweep” stadiums and streets after various events and festivals. Our neighbours and friends also help us to collect the lids. We have started to glue the lids to the fence since the beginning of summer. We had several ideas of what ornaments to make, but we have decided to create flowers: first we made sunflowers out of yellow lids, and when we ran out of yellow lids, we started to make poppies. The fence is located in our grandmother‘s garden in Czech Republic, where we spend every summer and winter holidays. While collecting the lids we have noticed that one can find more colourful lids in Lithuania than in Czech Republic. For instance, we brought blue, turquoise, brown and black lids from Lithuania to Czech Republic”– says Jevgenija Rute.
The prizes were awarded by: Europe‘s largest recycler of secondary polythene waste JSC “Plasta”, Public Institution “Meda Project”, member of European Parliament Zigmantas Balčytis, “Pramogų vėjas” Ltd., “Transrent” Ltd., JSC “Naujoji Rūta”.
