It is a great competition for everyone! Anyone, who finds a plastic bottle lid in a park or on the street, can bend over, take it and put it in one‘s pocket. Of course, one or ten lids mean nothing. But just imagine, what if the lids would be collected by all your family? What if your whole class, workplace, school or whole city gets involved? Or even your whole country? What if?…
Can you imagine how many new plastic containers (cups, glasses, etc.) can be produced from four thousand kilograms of collected plastic bottle lids? Yes, that is the amount that has been collected in Lithuania last year.
The competition „Lidmania“ has first been announced in 2012 in Lithuania. During the first year the competition gained a tremendous popularity and active involvement of its participants.
During the first year almost a ton of plastic (HDPE) bottle lids was collected and delivered for recycling to Europe‘s largest recycler of secondary polythene waste – JSC „Plasta“. In 2013 this number increased to more than four tons.
The aim of the competition is to collect as many wasted plastic (HDPE) bottle lids as possible and deliver them for recycling. All London’s educational institutions, families and random persons, anyone who cares about ecology, litter sorting, and cleanness in parks, forests or lakesides, is invited to collect plastic bottle lids.
The competition consists of two parts. First part – to collect as many plastic bottle lids as possible and deliver them for recycling. Second part – to create works of art out of the collected lids. Best selected artworks will be exhibited (you may take a look at the best artworks of 2013 here).
The registered teams (click here for registration information) that collect the largest amount of lids will be awarded with valuable prizes, gifts and letters of appreciation (click here to see the list of awards of past competitions that took place in Lithuania).
In 2014 „Lidmania“ has become an international competition and takes place not only in Lithuania, but also in London, UK.
